White spots on my cat's ears

We have noticed in the last couple of days that one of our cats has 4 white spots on his ears (the outside bit of the ear, not inside the ear canal itself). They look like white warty growths. The cat is otherwise healthy and happy, doesn't have fleas or ticks. I am just curious as to what it mught be. Has anyone any ideas?

They sound like they could be sheep ticks. I know that sounds odd but if he's been sniffing at a dead hedgehog, for example, he could have picked them up. They look white at first but then fill up with blood

Some advice about them here

It sounds a lot like ticks - if you are not sure then best take him to the vet.

Oh thank you very much for this, especially the link.

I didn't think for one second it would be ticks - I thought a tick would be recgnisable as a wriggling spider like creature stcuk on the cat. Just goes to show what little I know about life.

That link is an eye opener - worried now about my poor cat. making a vet appointment for tonight. Wish me luck getting him into the cat box!

Thanks again.
