Really basic question about going away and leaving cats

I have two cats - brother and sister who are very affectionate with each other. We've had them since last January. We have been away for 2-3 nights before and left them with neighbours coming in and feeding them. But when we went away for longer last year we had someone staying here.

We're going away for half term and wondered whether we can leave the cats for a week with people coming in to feed them. They will have each other for company and I think will be less disturbing for them than a cattery. But am a bit worried they'll wander off. Are there rules about this sort of thing?

As far as I know there there no rules - we've always left ours - with someone coming in daily of course.

They do tend to get a bit lonely but a week should be fine. As for wandering off - this will entirely depend on your cat. Are they prone to wander anyway? Ours have never wandered, holidays or not, but I do know friends who had their cats "adopted" during holidays.

PS I love your name - is it from the Cazalet saga?

we do exactly this,it is better for our cats as they aren't disturbed.as long as the food is there they won't go anywhere!Put them in a cattery once and they were so stressed they scratched their eyes until they bled

Cats really won't give a damn, provided there is food available (much better than a stressful cattery)

My Cats get really lonely when we are away and are actually happier in the cattery than left at home. However, the cattery we use did breed one of my cats and they do spend plenty of time with the cats each day playing with them and grooming them. It is very small only 20 pens and two ladies caring for the cats so lots of time per cat.
