Dog Names

My ddog is named Max (he was named when we got him as he is a rescue dog). His friends are called names like Polly, Penny, Jack, Lola, Bess and Ben. It was a relief when I met two Springers yesterday called Rover and Rusty. Is it time for a revival of classic dog names?

I have Patch, but I do think that his name is very unfashionable and would probably have chosen a different name if I did not have children.

I think all those names are dog names though. Max fits with the first lot of names much better than rover and rusty, but still all dog names none the less. I have a Poppy, have had a Rai, a Duke, a Penny, and Mindy. Quite Doggy i think.

My white staff is called Lily, she is nemed after another dog (a white english bull that used to come into the pub i was working in as a teenager).

I grew up with a boy called Olly who was named after his mums neighbours dog - she really loved that dog! So perhaps a revival of traditional doggy names could have a very interesting outcome on baby names thread! I have a beauley.

I have a Mullet
I met a dog recently called Barkie, inspired I thought.

I have a Scruff. His dearly departed, much loved predecessors were Gypsy and Myra.

My parents have a a Cujo (I was a massive Steven King fan in my younger years what can I say ) and a Bess. They've also had a Shera and a Zara.

My friends have/had a Daisy, Alfie, Ben and Max.

PILs' dog is called Max too. If we ever get a dog (which seems unlikely at the moment with 2 cats and both of us working FT) we will call it Hector. PIL had a dog called Buster when DH was growing up. I quite like that name too. A friend's ILs have a dog called Alastair which is odd but strangely fitting.

My SBT is called Lola, I have always wanted an EBT and name it Delilah, Dolly for short.

If we ever get a male dog I'd call him something like Dave or Frank!

Ours is called Rowlf. After the dog on the Muppets. When I was a kid we had Caeser. That is a proper dog's name.

thegrowlygus · 23/05/2010 13:46

...we also had Sindy. Which most definitely isn't. (I named her). (YES after the doll...)

Jazzicatz · 23/05/2010 13:47

My spaniel is called Ralph which means Counsel Wolf!

kveta · 23/05/2010 13:48

we had a Hector, he was the best dog ever. until we got Pepys, who was also brilliant DP and I want to call our future dogs Gerald and Horace.
