In particular a labrador puppy, covering to first bringing a puppy home, training etc. Nothing too taxing on the brain please?

Hi I'd recommend this book. It has a really good puppy section and all the methods are kind and fun.
Good luck!

Doglopaedia. Not a training book but very useful on all manner of things. I was forever consulting it when my springers were puppies and got into scrapes.

yay! another lab puppy.

The books that I got that were recommended on here were

The Culture Clash. Essential reading imo. Facinating and funny with an excellent section in the back on training (specifically clicker training).

The Perfect Puppy is a good one for general puppy stuff, what you need to get, crate training etc.

Complete Idiots Guide to Positive Dog Training is also excellent and runs along the same themes/techniques as The Culture Clash.

Don't Shoot The Dog is more about the theory of positive training. I really enjoyed it.

If I could only get one of all of those (I got out lots of books from the library too) it would be The Culture Clash.

I would second the Gwen Bailey book;the pwerfect puppy, covers just about everything for the first few weeks and is pretty sensible and user friendly .i also like the idiots guide one
