Dog boarding advice needed

Can anyone tell me their experience of having their dog boarded?

I made enquiries at a couple I have seen advertised but have yet to make a decision.

I stupidly thought I would chose one, drop the dog off and pay the money. But after speaking to the company, they need to ask lots of questions about the dog, which I fully understand. They then want to meet the dog at my house, then a walk together with their own dog. Then take my dog for 24 hours, then take him for the 2 weeks we have booked providing the other steps are sucessful.

Does that sound like the normal procedure?

we found a kennels, booked her in, answered questions - as you would expect, dropped her off - picked her up

This place we have enquired at it house boarding. I was expecting this experience to be as you described.
I wondered if all home boarders followed the same procedures or if this one is being very thorough.

they sound very sensible to me tbh , we once put our dog into boarding kennels for 5 days , came back from hols early as (down the country) i had spoken to the owners on the phone & she described my dog as the Pampered pooch that sulked he took him out that same day & he had lost loads of weight because he had been fretting & not eating properly , never left him again .

I hope I never have to leave my darling dogs in boarding kennels as I know they would hate it.

I think the couple are being very sensible and thorough. If you know your dog is going to be well cared for then it's well worth a bit of extra effort. Though maybe I'm too precious.

My old dog used to go to kennels approx twice a year for about 5 days at a time. He hated me leaving him but the owners assured me (and I believe them) that he was absolutely fine once I left. He was always delighted to see me when I picked him up but always looked healthy and well cared for. He was usually put into a kennel with another dog or bitch or approx the same size and temperament.
