Anyone keep chickens as pets?

I have three hens in my back garden. Hubby has built a run for them and they also have a coop.

I have one adult blue cochin, one lace orpington pullet and a light sussex POL who keeps escaping from the run. They all have their own personalities and the cochin is my favourite.

They make great pets!

Try posting in the Chicken Keepers topic. Lots of really knowledgable folk there.

I inherited 4 hens and a cockerel when I rented my current house. I look after them and I used to be a farmer but am not an expert on chickens.

Oh, I didn't realise there was a chicken keepers section!

Apologies if you post there already.

Never thought of chickens as pets but thinking about it, DS2 loves ours and I think children really learn a lot about where food comes from by seeing farm animals.

Yes, it's good for children to know these things.
