Eugh, I can't stand it, I try to stop him but he runs off at the speed of light trying to gulp it down.

We added pineapple to the food and it stopped him eating his and his sisters.

Put him on a lead when he poos praise him and walk him away. Then return without dog and pick up poo. The more you react to it the more he will do it.

My pup does this in the woods with cow and horse poo (gross)

Have heard about the pineapple thing...

I have a labrador, she has always done it (quite discerning though, only eats her own) and she knows we don't want her to do it - when she is caught she cowers and lies flat like we won't be able to see her - and I am reliably told that she will always try, and it is virtually impossible to train a labrador to stop this without extreme measures.

it is the absolutely vilest thing.

My dog did this and I never thought he would stop, but at 7 months old, he has stopped. I am so happy as there was nothing worse than his breath after he had eaten it!

Not sure if they naturally grow out of it. I did as minimu1 says. I put him on a lead, even in the garden, and picked it up straight away. I think we just broke the habit.

We did try putting carrots in his food, but that made no difference. Neither did the pineapple have any effect.

Good luck.

He doesn't seem to eat his own, just roots around in the woodland near our house til he finds some - definitely knows it's wrong I usually am running after him while he gobbles it down frantically! Had heard about giving him banana which might be along the same lines as pineapple, just wondered if there were any other solutions. It's just disgusting, when I see him do it, I can't help imagining it in his mouth being chewed up.... euughhhhhhh!!!!

not entirely sure, but how about making a loud noise when he goes near it. The idea is, he thinks he caused the noise and will be too afraid to go near it again.

My delightful little dog only went and ate his own poo this morning! Me and my big mouth
