To Kitten or not to Kitten that is the question!

DP and i wouls like a pet for DS to grow up with as we both did so he learns respect for animals but also becasue we would just like a family pet.
We have narrowed it downto a Kitten but were still umming and arring!

these are the reasons we cant have other animals.

Puppy/Dog - we dont have time or energy to train one and walk it.

fish - im s*it scared of em!

Birds - a bit antisocial and boring unless you get the very young and train them.

Rabbit/guinnipigs - again not suitable for ds as i wouls like a cuddly pet he could hold and stroke.

Hampsters/mice ect - dp had many a hapmster as a child and they all died so he doesnt want another

Snakes/spiders - do i ahve to explain?

So basicly it a kitten, we can out in a cat flap and i grew up with pets galore so i knw how to look after them - what do you think shall we???

Yeah my house growing up was like an animal sanctuary we had hundreds of animals! I am in untill about 9.30 in the morning then again at 11.30 so it only a couple of hours but, as i said when its been injected and is old enough it can use the cat flap in the front door. our flats small but i think plenty big enough for a fully grown cat, plus we havea big garden.

Ds is only 11 months, he loves animals and is fasinated but doesnt touch, thats why we wanted to get a pet for him to grow up with so by the time hes older he will respect it enough to to harass it to much

You know you want to!! There is a poor solitary kitten left in my local pet shop and I keep going in and playing with it - it's mental, keeps flying around the shop and trying to paw the chinchilla babies!
Kittens are so easy, I can't see any reasons not to have one (unless you own a b&b of course and can't really have furry things )

We found that getting two kittens was a great way of doing things. They have a playmate and are not lonely if we are out. They have been wonderful companions and they are so gentle with our DS2 (also 11 months), I think they sense he is a baby and doesn't mean to be rough with them.

They really don't make any mess and have been almost no trouble at all.

dejags, I was just about to say the same as you, last year I went to get a kitten and ended up with 2 (brother & sister) they have been lovely together, I have also read in books that 2 are better than 1.

If anything ever happended to them, I would definately have two more.

i also agree.if your'e going to get a kitten,then you may aswell get two.they won't be anymore bother than one and will have each other for company.i've also got two.

We got 2 kittens (sisters) when DS1 was about 2 and as they got bigger and he got more affectionate they hated it - they hung around for a couple more years but both ended up moving out and living with neighbours!

They are 15 now and both still living with the neighbours they moved in with
