Is this a common thing for vets to do?

Had rabbit put to sleep on Thursday (teeth probs and felt it wasn't fair to keep repeating ops again and again ) Vet was lovely at the time.

Just got a wee card through the door and inside shes hand written-

just to let you know we're thinking of you at this sad time, you made a brave but difficult decision for (rabbits name) yesterday which was the kindest one for him. He was clearly well loved and I know he'll be missed.

Then on other inside bit is a typed message about saying goodbye to a loved pet. And says to Giraffes from Vet obviously as well.

Only ever had a hamster put down before and never got that card. Do they all do that? Its very sweet. Wasn't expecting that at all.

Oh that's lovely.

We didn't get anything like that from our vets when we had our dog put down.

I think you just have a very nice vet!

And sorry to hear about your rabbit.

my brother's vet did similiar when his dog died just before Christmas.

My vet did the same when we had to have our dog put to sleep last year. I was very touched and wrote a nice letter of thanks back. I did wonder if he always does that or if it's just for one's he ... I dunno ... really feels for.

Sorry to hear about your rabbit

Where I used to work we always sent a sympathy card, and always made sure it arrived before any bill for cremation. Not all vets do the same, I'm afraid.

Sorry about your rabbit

All I got was an invoice :-(

I had one of my beloved guinea pigs, Poppy, put down last year as she developed a tumour, was 6 years old and because of the placement the vet decided it was kinder to let her go.

I paid at the time, and was really surprised to get a letter from them a couple of days later. Turns out it was a card, hand written by the vet, saying he believes we did the best for Poppy etc.

I thought it was such a lovely thing to do, still have the card. I'm glad other vets do the same thing.

Sorry about your rabbit, it certainly sounds like you did the best thing for him.

Our vet sent a card with a lovely message after we had to have a our beloved 14yr old dog put to sleep last year. They sent it about two weeks after she died and when I opened it, it set me off sobbing all over again!
