Will She Come Back?

I am really, really worried.

We have two indoor cats, a Ragdoll, Molly who is three and a moggy kitten, Lily who is 8 months old.

Lily is missing and we think she must have got out of the house late yesterday afternoon. She has never been out before at all. Luckily she is vaccinated and was spayed a few weeks ago, but she doesn't wear a collar and stupidly (very!!!) she isn't microchipped.

We live on an army camp, so the welfare office are going to send a text out with her description, so if anyone finds her they will know she is ours.

Is she likely to go very far? Is she likely to come back home? We had outdoor cats as kids, but I can't remember much about it, tbh.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

It's early days and it's very likely she'll appear when she's hungry enough so don't panic just yet. It sounds like you're doing all the right things - hope she shows up.

Cats have excellent sence of direction so try not to worry my tom cat would regularly go missing for a month (farm cat)he always came home but is the reason I no longer keep cats too much stress.

I have had cats missing for much longer (my Siamese went missing for about a week and we were sure he was dead) but he turned up right as rain. Someone responded to a poster I had put up - turned out he was in a garage/workshop type of thing about 20 metres away!

Fingers crossed - its v early days yet

Cats map out their territory, going further and further each time, and like elven says they have a good sense of direction. My two started going out when they were only a little younger than yours, and haven't got lost (yet - touch wood) despite being completely daft.

My (admittedly outdoor) cat went missing for 8 months, just disappeared. I looked everywhere for her, put up posters but no sign.
One day she came back and has been here ever since, as if she'd never been gone.
Weird creatures are cats.

I would guess she will come back- cats are very smart.

I went to NY for a week when I lived above the surgery and asked the nurses to feed my cats and let them in and out. When I came back, my big fella wouldn't speak to me- turned his back and stalked out, went missing for a week! I was frantic, called all the other vets, the SSPCA, the blummin cleansing department and had been driving round looking for him. After a week he strolled back in, happy and healthy, with a smug "how do YOU like it?" look on his face.

Have seen lots and lots of cats who have returned after a good length of time, so keep your hopes up

My sister had some advice from Cats Protection which worked when her cat went missing - get some liver, cook it (blee) and place the dish outside, high up somewhere - think the smell is strong so attracts them - yes, it'll attract all cats, but hopefully yours among them.

muggglewump · 23/04/2010 00:48

And, to clarify, my cat didn't come back skinny, or traumatised, or off, or in any way different, she just strolled back as if she'd never been gone.
She's been back a year now (I've had her for 5 years) and she's still very contrary, huffy and a bitch, but seems happy so long as she's fed, and stroked, but only when she wants to be stroked and fed.

She's timid too and terrified of the other cats in the neighbourhood, except for when she's not and wants to kill them all.

She's schizophrenic cat!

I'm currently considering an older cat and a kitten to add to our brood of pets, but I'm not sure how she'll like it.
She does seem to like things all her own way, just like me, not like her owner.

bump. Any news Midori?

midori1999 · 24/04/2010 11:55

Sorry, haven't replied sooner as had terrible toothache which resulted in tooth out yesterday, and as pregnant can only take paracetamol, which wasn't that effective!

Lily was returned by a near neighbour the day I posted (so the day after she went missing). She had been trying to hide in her garden since the night before and when she got the text she realised who's she was and brought her back. Thank goodness!

I think madam was glad to be back and was clearly starving, I'm not sure she would have made her way back at all. Taking extra measures to keep her in now, but not sure she's that keen to get out now anyway!
