she slept like a dream last night, 5 minutes of crying, i waited till she had stopped and went in to her then she was quiet all night. this morning she is very nervous, won't let me put her down, she didn't eat anything last nigh and is not interested thi8s morning, I have tried to take her outside to gofor a wee but she is petrified.
I understand thst she is frightened, I am just worried about the eating.

if there's anyone around should I leave her food down with her or take it up and leave her till next meal?

Dont leave her food down! She will eat when she is hungry, its takes a while for them to get used to their new surroundings. Try tempting her with chicken and rice, I've had lots of puppies with the same problem dont worry she will eat.

I wouldn't leave the food down and I wouldn't try 'tempting' her with anything else yet either.

It is quite common for young puppies to be off their food when they first go to their new homes.

What food is she on? Has the breeder given instructions on how to feed her? I am still damping food slightly at 8 weeks with a little warm water, so she may be used to that? I would suggest ringing the breeder for advice and see what she has done.

thanks for advice, took her food up after about 10 mins as she wasn't even looking at it. she is on royal canin and it is dampened, she has since been out in the garden, done 2 poo's out there (and none in the house ) when I gave her lunch she ate every scrap of it.
she is still a little bit nervous, but every now and then she starts chasing dd2 round and wagging her tail, she is going to be just fine here I think .

midori, beberose, when would you recommend going from 3 meals to 2? My pup is 11 weeks and the last few days I've fed her twice a day because we are clicker training and she seems to be eating so much in treats throughout the day? Is this okay or do you think I should go back to 3 (smaller) meals. She seems quite happy BTW

oxocube · 22/04/2010 21:18

Oh and congrats dita

if she seems happy on 2 meals aday leave her but make up the extra meal using treats to train her.
