Is there any hope for my goldfish?

Dd is very upset When she went to feed her fish one of them looked dead. It is breathing but it's fins or tail aren't moving, and it seems kind of flopped to one side. It was almost at the top of the tank but I moved it to another so I could clean them out, and it seems to have taken soem of the food. Back in the tank it's now on the bottom, still breathing, its eyes moving a bit. Is it too late?

Not necessary do you have a water test kit it might be nitrate's in which case there are many effective treatments if you are willing to spend quite a bit of time administering them.

What size tank do you have? do you have a filter?

yes to a filter, though it needs changing and I can't find where I put the box
Not sure of the size, it's not a fancy set up, just 2 fish in a spongebob tank! Googling seems to think it might be some kind of fish constipation so I might try feeding them lettuce for a few days as suggested. Fingers crossed

Hope it all works and your fish get better.

I would guess at a long term water quality problem that has caused a bacterial infection. Those sponge bob tanks are no good for any fish really let alone goldfish which get massive. Not your fault, these tanks are constantly missold by an industry that doesn't care about fish (or customers) at all

It doesn't look good for your sick fish but you could help it and the other fish by doing lots of water changes (don't forget to use dechlorinater!) and getting them into a much bigger tank as soon as possible.

Here are a couple of articles that might help you-

Goldfish care

Water info

Hope that helps.
