Mummy rabbit is walking, not hopping after surgery

Hope someone can reassure, as I'm a bit worried about her.

she has hopped a little bit today but mostly, when she moves, she is walking on her back and front legs, rather than hopping - she seems to find the usual hopping painful or awkward?

They were all neutered on Thurs and the others are doing it now and then, but she seems to be having trouble.

Could this be a result of bruising/pain or is it possible it's a complication of surgery, ie she has sustained some damage to the spinal cord perhaps?

Poor bun

I'm no expert but I think it's probably pain or stiffness. My male rabbit was not a happy bunny for a couple of days after neutering, I should think it's worse for a female.
Hope someone knowledgable comes along to reassure you.

Oh Moshie thankyou very much, that is reassuring.

I hate to think of them in pain, but they are doing a bit better every day...hopefully this will get less noticeable gradually.

Thanks x

Sorry fliight, completely missed this

Walking is a sign that she has pain in her tummy - it's probably just from her incision, it can take up to a week for the pain to subside. Did you speak to the vet about the metacam? I think it would do her the world of good - if she's in pain, she'll be stressed and could stop eating, which can cause gut statis (btw the walking in itself could also be a sign of gut statis if she's not pooing either, but this tends to get serious very quickly so you'd probably know by now if that was the case).

How is she today?

Stasis, can't spell this morning

Thankyou so much MrsL.
I spoke to them yesterday about metacam, and asked about dosage as I have some here but they said they'd need to see her in order to assess whether she could have it and how much etc.
It was just after that that they hit me with the triple bill situation, so I'm afraid I declined to take her and said I would watch her and see how she goes. But I might take her in tomorrow - depends what happens regarding the bill, really. I may also take her to a different vet if things are too awkward there, and ask them about Metacam.

Meanwhile, she's been eating, just apple really but some more grass and dandelion. And I think they had some of the sachet I put in their water last night which is basically ground up pellets I think. Some of it's gone anyway!

Still producing poos but there have been some cecotropes left again. The walking is still evident for all three of them, poor things, but they are hopping too - they seem to find it hardest within the hutch, as it's a confined space and they often lie around so probably seize up.

I will put them in the run in a minute I think and see how they get on. Probably using their legs a bit more might help...and tomorrow I'll go back if they;re still doing the walking.

Thanks again - you've been brilliant this last week!
