Does the full moon affect your dog?

My lab was very skittish and unsettled last night. Whining when we went to bed (very unusual), pacing the floors and panting excessively.

He wasn't hunry, he had water and he did not need the toilet, dh said it was the full moon

He is perfectly fine today.

But I googled it today and there does seem to be a case for it.....

nah, thats pants

there could have been dozens of reasons your dog behaved this way

the behaviour you list is stress related.

DrNortherner · 29/03/2010 14:25

I know he seemed really anxious but there was nothing for him to be anxious about at all.

Maybe he saw a ghost .......

Well mine barks at it.
I kid you not.
It took us a while to actually prove this but yes he does the barking at the fullmoon thing.
He also barks at hot air balloons.

Hi DrNortherner
but how do you know there was nothing making him anxious?

for example, did you check outside?

Hi Mamas

your dog barking at the full moon and hit air balloons is the same thing....
....strange round things in the sky

mamas12 · 29/03/2010 20:47

Exactly, it's very funny.

There is evidence to suggest that there a link between the fll moon and canine epilepsy. Certainly at the rescue I help at, where there are 6 or 7 epi dogs, we see an occurrence virtually every new moon.

Really Valhalla? That's interesting.

Dh checked outside yes, there was no one/nothing there. My dog always barks if he hears anything outside, this behaviour was completley different.
