Dogs and kids with ASD

We have ds who is 4/12 and ASD, have noticed that he really likes dogs and is gentle with them.
I had an idea about 'borrowing' a dog for walks. Obv it would have to be well trained etc.
Has anyone ever done this or an I completely mad

I have a ds with ASD who is 9. We also have a labrador puppy of 8 months. Our puppy "knows" ds is different and is very protective of him. We also find the same when ds goes riding - the ponies are very tollerant.

There are organisations such as Pals who may be able to help, not sure about the walking but with visits and time with a dog. It may be worth contacting your local dog training school - they might know of local suitable dogs.

Dogs are used as therapy for all sorts of different conditions so this is not a mad suggestion at all. These people may be able to help you? www.petsastherapy.org/
