Might be getting a new kitten - am I mad?!

I have a feeling the answer is a resounding YES

A woman in work told me today that her daughter's cat is pregnant (it's a stray that they've adopted - they booked her in to be spayed but it was already too late). We've been looking for an older male cat for a while and have been in contact with the local rescues but they don't have anything suitable for us. We already have two female cats who are 4 years old, so we were hoping to get a male about the same age. But a lot of the rescue cats need to be a lone pet or can't be housed with dogs, so we're not having much luck.

I didn't really want a kitten because of the furniture scratching / climbing up the curtains stage, but she's going to have a litter of kittens to rehome and we've been looking for ages... so I've asked her to let me know if there are any boys in the litter. And if there is, I could be adding another furbaby to my zoo brood!

DH isn't too keen on a young kitten either but I think he's secretly pleased that we'll have another boy in the house at last, he's surrounded by girls at the moment!

Congrats :D

As a cat person, I'd say the more the merrier rather than "your mad" lol.

Even when I was taming semi-feral kittens before, they grew out of the climbing curtains/sitting on top of curtains rails stage within about a week once the calmed down so I'm sure a kitten that is used to being handled from birth should be fine.

Thanks countrygirl, it's good to know the climbing phase will pass quickly

Our two were very ill as kittens so were in no shape to climb anything until they were a few months old, by which stage they'd calmed down. So it's been a good few years since I've had kitten carnage!

Will be seeing the woman on Tuesday so hopefully there'll be some news, although they're not quite sure when she's due so I suppose it could be a while yet - they only found out she was pregnant when they dropped her off at the vets to be spayed and the vet examined her
