Im just watching my local news and there's a lady breeding staffs with pitbulls.
Some of them had scars from fighting, and they where locked in cages at the bottom of the garden

It makes me so sad and angry. These dogs are lovely if not put in the wrong hands.

My staffy is lying in her big comfy bed with her fleecey blanket and jumper on snorning away like a farm animal

I know there's other threads along this line but i just needed to say

That is sad :-( My best friend has a staffie and she's the sweetest dog. I've never met a staffie I didn't like!

I hate the way they are becoming an accessory to intimidate people I am trying to counter this, every time I see someone trying to look tough with a couple of staffies on massive chains I say extremely loudly so that everyone in the street can hear- "AWWWW, WOOK AT THE WIDDLE PUPPY DOGS, SO SWEEEEET! WOOK AT THEIR WIDDLE FACES" etc etc and then the person who is trying to look tough has failed in their mission and may as well be in possession of 2 miniature poodles.

how funny.

You have balls though, i wouldnt say that

also on the news there was a 16 yr old boy who got stabbed, the horrible evil thing that done it too the young boy even sent his dog off to chase him.
he got bit badly all over then the man killed him.

why the dangerous dogs act issuch a pile of wank - becuase it bans 'breeds' which don't exist (pit bulls not being recognised by the KC AFAIA) rather than going after people that treat dogs hrribly - after all a staffy/cross can be a lovely pet..or a sadly abused and dangerous beast depending on treatment.

also, people who assume small dogs can be 'accessories' and put them to be rehomed when they turn out to need training, walking and feeding....dogs are just dogs. the image is a matter of human perception.

izzybiz · 18/03/2010 18:36

It is and it makes me angry too, we have a 20 week old Staff and she is the sweetest thing. I love them as a breed and think they make fantastic family pets. They are so people friendly, I think thats part of what makes them easy targets for these idiots, they just want to do anything for their owners

These status dogs tend to change with the fashion, we have had German Shepards, Dobermans, Rottweillers etc, I wonder what will be next?

Amandoh · 18/03/2010 22:51

I've just read the article CrispyCake is referring to. Absolutely horrific crime and the poor dog was stabbed during the attack. Article here.

In this case it's great that the dogs DNA was useful in catching the owner but once this is common knowledge any dog used similarly again will be disposed of by the owner and I doubt it'll be done humanely.

I wish the dog licensing system could be reintroduced. It would be especially helpful in controlling/reducing banned breeds such as the American Pit Bull crosses. I have three dogs (Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cavalier King Charles, Papillon and tomorrow a Dogue De Bordeaux puppy arrives!) and I'd happily pay for licences for them.

EggyAllenPoe · 19/03/2010 23:28

erm..how will it help when many dogs kept for fighting are never walked in public?

EggyAllenPoe · 19/03/2010 23:30

and as i said 'pit bull' is a perception, not a breed....any leggy staffy cross can be called a 'pit bull'
..its not like someone is going to ask for your KC documents before declaring it to be one.

MuddyMamma · 20/03/2010 17:58

pit bulls are a real breed. they are banned cos they have been bred to love fighting. pit bulls are a ticking time bomb, even in a perfect dog home.
yes they do look like staffy crosses BUT are a real danger. you HAVE to train a staffy to fight, but pit bulls are born to kill

bamboobutton · 20/03/2010 18:09

i do that too sweetnita!

the look on their faces when their "well 'ard" dog is fawning and going crazy over high pitched 'aren't woo an ickle bickle darling? yes you are, yes you are' is priceless

Ripeberry · 20/03/2010 18:19

Sorry, but all staffies are not 'cute'. Even if I saw a familly out walking their staffie, I would automaticaly think that they were 'yobs'.
Can't stand the breed, just can't see what is cute about them. Their mouths are far too big for their heads.
Too many of them around at the moment.
P.s I'm not really a dog lover full stop, but if I did have a dog I would rather have an Alsatian or Eskimo dog.

OhFuck · 20/03/2010 20:34

"all staffies are not 'cute'. Even if I saw a familly out walking their staffie, I would automaticaly think that they were 'yobs'"

Ripeberry, can I assume that you make that statement based only on your own perceptions and not based on any personal experience of the breed whatsoever?

I know many, many more GSDs of unreliable temperament than I do Staffies. The whole thing is moot anyway - a dog's breed has much less to do with these incidents than the individuals who own them.

morethanyoubargainfor · 20/03/2010 20:48

Can someone please tell me why in that article it states that 'tyson' is a banned breed when it says that he is a staffie mastiff X?
