Does anybody have zebrafinches

Does anyone have these my ds aged 9 wants them and we are thinking of getting a couple.
What are they like to keep and can you let them out for a fly.

Yes we have Zebra finches. They make lovely pets. We have 6 at the moment.

You need to get at least two. I would recommend a boy and a girl or two boys. There's no reason why you can't keep two girls, but the boys are much more entertaining and the girls don't sing, so I think you miss out if you don't have a boy.

It's not usual to let them out to fly. They certinally can't be hand trained in the way a budgie would. They only way you would get a tame ZF is if it had been handreared. I have let mine out (or they have escaped), and catching them involves a net, a lot of jumping around and a stressed out bird.

We have bred our, baby ZF's are very cute! They will only breed if you give them a nest though, so it's not something you need to worry about.

I used to have them many years ago they also bred very well.
