Dog pee's when excited- any advice?

Hi I have a 16 month old female springer spaniel who is a lovely natured family pet but has an unfortunate habit of peeing if anyone other than myself, husband or son comes into the house. She seems to get so excited that she can't control it. We also have an older male cocker spaniel who fortunately doesn't have this habit! We just now make sure that the dogs are in another room if we know that people are coming around. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would actually do the opposite. I would introduce the dog to as many people as possible but probably outside (rather than widdle all over the house). When the people come get them to ignore the dog until she is calm. Eventually if this is just a behavioural problem it will stop.

If she does pee do not take any notice and do not tell her off or sigh etc as this will only increase her anxiety and she will then wee more.

We had a JRT who used to do this.
I used to take him outside as I opened the door to let someone in.
He grew out of it when he was about 2.

Thanks for your replies, i'll try letting her outside when people come round and see if that works. She has done it since a puppy even with my hubby and myself so she has improved slightly! Hopefully she will grow out of it until then thank god for wooden floors!!

This came up at a puppy party last week! The nurse said to warn friends that they mustn't make a fuss of the dog when they first arrive but call her after 5 minutes or so. Get lots of people to call but pre warn them first.

Apparently she will get used to waiting for attention and the peeing will stop.

Seems sensible but such a shame because they are so pleased to see everyone.

Yes she is such a friendly wee thing it's a shame that we have to always banish her to another room when people arrive, as it's enevitable that she'll wee on their shoes!!
