I am so
I really bloody loved that cat. Got him from a rescue centre and he was the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever known.

He had a few things wrong with him but a massive tumour in his stomach was killing him.
The vet said there was no hope.
Never had an animal euthanised until now.
I stayed with him till the end and he purred right until his last moment.
Feel so desolate now, and guilty too.
House doesn't seem like a home any more.

I'm so sorry you did the right thing, he isn't suffering anymore and he was happy with there with him

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/02/2010 17:04

Oh, how sad. But don't feel guilty! - it would have been terrible if he'd deteriorated and really suffered. He was purring, so he was happy.

I can imagine that home doesn't feel like home without him right now .

Don't feel guilty

You did the kindest and most responsible thing. He's no longer suffering - that's the biggest gift we can give our pets, tbh.

Take it easy and give yourself time to grieve for him x

really sorry to hear this, we are currently worrying about our v old dog. you were with him to the end and you didn't let him deteriorate , take care x

Just had my rabbit pts today. We had her for 8 years and thought she was a dog. Cannot stop crying. Deepest sympathies to you. I wasn't brave enough to be with her while it was done and will always feel guilty about that.

bobblehead · 25/02/2010 20:03

She thought she was a dog that is- we all knew she was a rabbit!!!!

Fleegle · 25/02/2010 20:06

So sorry to hear this. At least he had you with him at the end

JollyPirate · 25/02/2010 20:08

Sorry to hear this - it's so sad when a pet dies.

arsesandoldlace · 25/02/2010 20:10

Thanks for your replies. Having a very hard time today as I cleared out all his little bits and pieces.
lulamaam, how is your dog this evening?

bobblehead, I am so sorry this has happened to your rabbit too. This kind of grief feels very isolating doesn't it?

What was her name?

At least you didn't keep him going until he was in pain all the time. So sorry

bobblehead · 25/02/2010 20:44

Bunny

Yes just feel awful, can't really talk to anyone about it as I cry too easily.
I feel I really copped out by not being with her, but she was already at the vets to be monitered and I would have had to take young dc with me.

arsesandoldlace · 25/02/2010 21:14

You didn't cop out, there's no way you could have taken young children with you for that kind of thing.
Believe me, it is so fast when they get PTS the animal really doesn't know it's happened.
Honestly.
Your Bunny wouldn't have been scared or anything.
I know it's horrible, I don't even want to tell people either in case they don't understand or tell me I could always get another cat (would probably lump them one )

We had to do this last year for our old cat - it is heartbreaking. They are such a part of the family, dd went looking him for days.

x

Fleegle · 25/02/2010 21:26

bobblehead-- you didn't cop out and the vets would have been very kind to your bunny.
Would have been more stressful for all and bunny if DC had been there. So sorry for you as well.

bobblehead · 25/02/2010 21:42

Thanks everyone. That does make me feel better.
She was very familiar with all the staff there as she'd had problems for the last couple of years. One nurse even shared her lunch with her yesterday so I know she was in good hands.

DuffyMoon · 25/02/2010 22:31

OP has brought tears to my eyes - poor you. Just think how you took a rescue cat and no doubt spoilt rotten - what a difference you made. He sounded a lovely, contented cat.

And to others that have lost pets
