If you have a cat that goes walkabout - how long do they go for?

One of my cats often dissapears for a day/day & a half at a time, then just waltzes in & curls up on sofa. We suspect someone may feed her as she is extremely cute & still looks kitten like at 4 yrs old!

She has now been missing >48hrs, this is NOT usual (missing 2 breakfasts & 2 dinners). Our garden backs onto a graveyard which backs onto a golfcourse, so loads of exploring places. There is also the road out the front.....

How long do yours stay away for. We are now printing out "Missing" notices, but don't want to go out with them yet

Mine don't roam for that long - only happened once just after I moved house - no harm had come to the cat but she just couldn't find her way back to the new house so I found her by walking round & round calling for her - she came when she heard me.

Good luck finding your's. Fingers crossed for you.

One we had once was missing for several days and eventually crept in very thin and filthy - we think he'd been shut in someone's coal hole.

I would say 48 hours was long enough to start looking. Good luck - hope you find her

ours went missing for a month once. She was very thin when she came back - I think she'd been trapped somewhere. poor thing. we were pleased to see her though.

gosh you dont live near me do you?(southampton) theres this cute young looking tiny cat that keeps hanging around, and is desperate for affection/food (havent fed it yet!) he DID have a collar on about ten days ago when he first appeared, and the address wasnt too far away (tho I cant remember it exactly now) so I carried him nearer to home and shooed him away.
lately he has no collar and is still as loving as ever() I do try and discourage him, nicely, iyswim, but.....dont quite know what to do now.

on the other hand when we had cats, one would never go very far and the other would go off for days and days. every time just as I thought he had died or been stolen he would saunter back home

No DQ, we are in Reading. She doesn't wear a collar but is microchipped so if vet/police get her we should know.

Thanks for support. When DH gets home will go out looking again.

my cat goes for walks for up to 2 weeks in the summer. she is off on one now. she comes back for some food then goes off again. she eats mice and the likes on her travels. she does it every summer and come winter you cant get her out the house

My cat Martha went away for longer and longer until she went for good.

Weeks later I found out she'd simply moved into another family's home.

Yaaaay - she's back

DH & I just went all around the graveyard calling, (for second time today) & DH heard her first (she has a distinctive voice). She came to us but did'nt want to come home - has been on the golf course! Eventually got her in, fed, milk & ham treats. At least now we know where she goes. She is a good hunter so probably turning into Ogri's cat

really pleased she's back milliways.does your head in when they do that. we have one that goes for 4 days about twice a year. We all schlep about like he's dead and hes never coming back in great distress. then the rascal comes home( usually dry and well fed)

I felt sorry for her brother. Every time we called for her, brother turned up yowling looking for affection (which he got). They are very similar so we kept thinking she had come back before. Both in now

Ours went missing last week - had never done it before. We suspected she had got trapped somewhere as the body hadn't turned up after a couple of days (phoned all the local vets.) We had almost given up and were about to tell the kids she was gone for good when she turned up again (three days after disappearing). She must have been somewhere with loads of mice as she wasn't really hungry when she got back

Glad she's back. We had a cat that went missing for 4 years - my Dad had even blocked up the cat flap - and it just turned up one day in a nice new red collar, banging on the kitchen window and miaowing to be let in.

That was a Reading cat too!
