Sad - Baby Rabbits have died

Hi

My DD went to wake her bunnies up this morning and found 4 dead kits in the hutch. We thought we had 2 girls (6 months old) so it was a real surprise to find the babies and awful when I had to tell her that they were all dead. She is really upset and so am I. "Mum" had done a brilliant job of cleaning up and nesting. She'd buried one kit in the straw but the other 3 were strewn around the hutch. We'd had to separate both "girls" yesterday as there was some really aggressive behaviour going on that we thought, stupidly, was just two girls being dominant with each other. In fact, yesterday I booked them both an appointment to get spayed on Friday!

Still really sad now and going to have a bunny burial later today

We separated them yesterday and she gave birth during the night so I'm hoping that there will be no more. I am a bit concerned though that he was mounting her yesterday (which we thought was dominating behaviour between two girls ) and I've read that rabbits can get pregnant whilst they are carrying a litter.

She seems fine tonight although she is still protective about the bed area which was where she made her nest. But she's eating well. We made a coffin out of a shoebox for the kits and have buried them in the garden. DD named them and made little cards for them.
