I have just spent about £30 at amazon on books, which is Minimu, Bella and Midori's fault completely, and £37 at Ezydog, which is Bella's fault, and Tulpe, Wynken and Bella will all have a lot to answer for if I click 'check out' at Holly and Lil. So that's enough, OK?

tulpe · 18/02/2010 11:53

I put in an Amazon order yesterday. DH saw the confirmation email and wondered aloud if I didn't already have enough puppy related literature

Romanarama · 18/02/2010 12:20

what did you order?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 18/02/2010 13:39

Oh flipping heck Romanarama, finger off the button I can't live with the responsibility for a Holly and Lil check out. Anyway, you need to dither for at least 3 months before buying one, heightens the anticipation

Romanarama · 18/02/2010 14:00

Yes, I think I need a build up. Also I really ought to wait until he's nearer fully grown before deciding which collar to buy, so have about 6 months to think about it

Bella32 · 18/02/2010 15:00

You'd be mad to get one of those collars yet, Romanarama.

My Amazon recommendations page is something to behold

I had a sneaky peek in WH Smith today too. Didn't buy, but managed to prop Ian Dunbar up in front of CM's new book. A service to the community, I reckon.

minimu · 18/02/2010 15:46

Bella I've been offered free tickets to CM in March at o2. Do you fancy a bit of heckling?

Actually my initial reaction was not to go but the more I think about it I wonder if I should go and leaflet people etc etc

It an essential part of dog ownership to spend ££££ on books

Bella32 · 18/02/2010 15:59

Oooh yes, Minimu.

Can we pop a Cesar Millan Illusion Collar on him.

He claims it makes it easier for the dog to 'give in and have a postive learning experience'.

Yeah, asphyxiation kind of has that effect

morethanyoubargainfor · 18/02/2010 16:03

mim and bella i want to come too! I can do almost anything its been ages since i have done my 'bit' towards animal welfare .

Bella32 · 18/02/2010 16:04

Personally, I would welcome the opportunity to hit the headlines for being arrested at a CM demo.

morethanyoubargainfor · 18/02/2010 16:06

ok i'm in then! I have first dibs on 'restrainig him' to see how 'dominant' he is judging on the time it takes him to get an erection. .

Not sure DH could cope with me in a cell again, apparently i am 'sensible' now .

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 18/02/2010 16:28

Well I'm half way through 'The Culture Clash' which Bella and minimu recommended and it is absolutely excellent, so if that one is on your lists Romanarama and tulpe you won't regret it.

'tis Slubber btw in I've-given-up-all-of-mn-for-Lent-apart-from-Pets-because-I-need-to -learn-things namechange format

oh and MY NEW PUPPY WAS BORN 50 MINUTES AGO

[dance of joy]

minimu · 18/02/2010 16:36

Congratulations how exciting. Put the birth annoucement on here gory details and everything. OOOh I want a new puppy

Ok lets get a possy together to go and shock collar CM.

"in a cell again" morethanyoubargainfor you should be the sort of gang member we need

I did mention this one on another thread but in case you get to the end of the book list . Another one is The complete Idiots Guide to Positive dog training (Second Edition) Pamela Dennison.

Read this again a few days ago and had forgotten how good it was. Don't want that credit card to go cold!

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 18/02/2010 16:47

spelling totally gone to pot sorry

Romanarama · 18/02/2010 17:23

Hurray, congrats Edward

My next door neighbour just phoned me all tearful because his old goldie (14yo) had a heart attack and died last week , then again all cheerful as he had called my breeder and arranged a new pup . So another little fluff ball next door, which will be lovely!

I have bought both 'Culture Clash' and 'Don't Shoot the Dog' so am looking forward to that. They despatched today

(Bella what on Earth is that neck contraption??)

Woo - hoo: brill news, ESE!

Romanarama: that is Cesar's own invention - the legendary Illusion Collar. Haven't you got one?

Some people say it's cruel

Cesar claims the high head carriage it encourages helps make a dog look proud.

Other dogs might interpret that as 'looking for a fight'

Congrats to Edwardian!
All recommendations duly noted

tulpe · 18/02/2010 20:47

Congrats Edwardian!

Romanarama - I bought the Gwen Bailey Perfect Puppy book (was wondering why it hadn't arrived as I was certain I ordered it before we had Ruby at home.......doh! must remember to properly check out rather than merely load up basket ) Plus another book (which I cannot remember name of now and can't be bothered to check my order confirmation).

Am definitely requesting Culture Clash for Mothers Day.

Bella32 · 18/02/2010 20:47

One more recommendation - my fave film

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 18/02/2010 22:20

Romanarama I forgot your pup is still little, step away from the checkout, do not pass go until passed that bit where they grow overnight every night finishes. My dog knows that now she has her collar she isn't allowed to grow any more, saves a fortune in food

Edwardian, congratulations, how exciting !!! Are discussions underway for a name or have you sorted that bit?

I'm reading a book called "A Good Dog" that DS who is 6 found for me on the library shelf, most proud of his new reading skills. He thought he'd found a dog training book and was quite deflated to hear it is about a mad border collie and wouldn't help the dog behave.

Romanarama · 19/02/2010 09:51

this is another contender for best dog film. It's really funny

OP posts:
EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 19/02/2010 10:17

I agree Romanarama, Best in Show is an excellent film, very funny. Will have to put the Truth about Cats and Dogs on my dvd list.

Hopefully there is a photo or two of Elsie on my newly created profile. hmmm giving up mn for Lent has sort of gone a bit pear shaped.

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 19/02/2010 10:21

Wynken - yes Elsie .
dd2 insisted on giving her a middle name too so that is Grace, not that I'm going to be shouting calling in a firm, confident tone 'Elsie-Grace' when I'm out on walks.

poncetastic KC name is still under discussion.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/02/2010 14:03

Lovely name, I like it a lot. And most impressed that she has a middle name
