Cat been spayed - how long collar on

My cat was spayed yesterday. How long should I keep the collar on, the vet nurse said 14 days which seems a long time. We have to feed her with a spoon as she can't get into bowl and just pushes it around. What are your experiences, will she pull stitches out (they are disolving ones but there are two knots sticking out).

Yes, she may well pull them out. If she does, she'll need another anaesthetic to put them back in, which nobody wants of course.
I would follow your vet's advice: you can take it off to help her eat but if you do then be mega-vigilant: they can pull stitches out in the blink of an eye. Alternatively, you can raise her bowls up on top of an upturned bowl to help her reach them more easily.

Thankyou Bella. She looks so sad with it on and has managed to get it off once but has stopped trying now. She is more cuddly though which is nice. Can't wait to let her out for the first time when she's recovered. This is our first cat so all advice is greatly received.

Don't worry - they quickly adapt to the collar and it really is far better than having to be re-sutured.
She'll soon be bounding around again

Wow, my vet said 1 week and that was a long week for us!!

Re: the pushing the food about - mine did this until it got to the wall when she was able to reach easier.

2 weeks does seem a long time.

I've got 3 cats, all spayed and none of them had collars on . They licked the wound to clean it but never tried to pull the stitches out. infact, they were climbing all over the place within a couple of days
