I've been feeding my cat low fat iams for about 6 weeks and she has lost weight! Should I stop?

Is it ok to just keep feeding her the low fat stuff indefinitely? or should I put her back on ordinary? She wasn't very overweight to start with and I don't want her to waste away to nothing.

Whats her weight at the mo? I think 3.5-4.5kg is a good weight for cats (although dont quote me on that one!)

One word of caution tho, if/when you go back to the normal food, do it gradually over a week, or her digestive system will not cope so good.

What does your vet think?

Could your cat be getting food elsewhere? Some cats have several families on the go at once.

if she's mainly a house cat, I would keep her on the lower calorie stuff.

She only weighed about 4.25kg to start with!

Low fat iams, you say?

Why's she on low fat food if she wasn't over weight?

schroeder · 16/02/2010 16:38

Good question 123 the vet said she was overweight and suggested a low fat diet. I looked at her record card thing from the vet when posting and it said she was 4.25 kg.

It's a bit hard to tell if she is fat as she's so fluffy.
