Hi there,
Would love dd to grow up with a pet - however I don't think as a household a dog would suit us (although I love them) but my dh is no cat fan! I am also allergic to cats (just to add that into the mix!). However I have heard great things about Siberians - often hypo-allergenic and have much more of a dog type temperament. Would love to know the real story from any siberian owners.

Think you would probably be better of a a rex either cornish or devon for the coat point of view.

Be prepared to feel unwell for the first couple of weeks when you get them (I'm allergic too). I just take piriton every day and ensure I don't get scratched by accident.

I have somali's which have dog like temperment but know nothing about siberians tbh

Thanks CarGirl will check out Somali. In the past I have found that long hair breeds are less of a problem for me than short or the supposedly allergy friendly breeds like rex. Think the allergy is more linked to the dander and skin rather than length of fur. It's worth having a look at the Siberians as they are supposedly great hypo allergnic cats but just wanted to know from owners if that was indeed true.

Hi there -- we're also looking into SIberians for allergy reasons. Am trying to find a breeder in the SE (where we live) as I think an allergy visit is a necessary first step. Have emailed some breeders, waiting to hear back.

I used to have a laperm and he was a non allergic cat. He also thought he was a dog

Have a pic of alfie on my profile and you will get an idea of his coat. Very curly with curly whiskers. Totally cute

interesting, starshaker: is alfie the tiny kitten? both cats look lovely.

I was put off LaPerms by the name -- but have just gone off googling, and they don't look terribly permy. Hmm. Something else to think about.

Yeah alfie was the tiny kitten. Very very affectionate cats. Loved him to bits. Sadly lost him about a year ago. If i wasnt preg i would have bought another by now lol

I've booked an allergy visit with someone who has Russian Blues -- they're meant to be more hypoallergenic too.
No Siberian breeders have got back to me yet.
