As the title really - our puppy's dew claws at the front look quite long, are you meant to cut them yourself or do you need a vet to do it - if not how do you manage to do it?? Many thanks

You need special clippers and you need to be really careful you don't cut into the quick, especially if the claw is black - otherwise it'll really hurt, bleed like crazy and pup won't let you near his claws again.
They will always look longer than the other claws as they don't wear against the ground.
I would pop into the vets and ask a nurse to check them - unlikely that a pup's are too long but the nurse can show you how to trim them safely if need be.

thanks - will pop to the vet for them to have a look - as I don't want to hurt her. I didn't fancy doing it myself really - it's bad enough doing the children's nails, they always scream blue murder!
