I agree, I just thought she might like some company.

which one? my hamster when alive seemed pretty happy by herself, i've never had guniea pigs but those who have i know kept pairs

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 30/01/2010 15:49

The hamster. She is so small and lovely but I worry she is lonely. She is too fast for us to hold.

I have 2 guinea pigs and they are so in love. They cry when separated.

ahhh bless, what kind of hamster is she?

mine was a dwarf erm something very speedy

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 30/01/2010 15:53

She is a roboroski. So cute but so tiny and fast.

a russian dwarf hamster we called her biscuit, she was very quick but we could hold her, although we lost her a few times

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 30/01/2010 16:01

She runs away and even if I can cup my hands around her she escapes and I assume she doesn't want to me held. She has a lovely life though with a fab cage.

I just looked them up on wiki, u appear to have the fastest hamster ever!!

I enjoyed watching biscuit go crazy in her cage so at least you'll get entertainment from that.

Biscuit went in a dwarf ball for cleaning, do you think you could get her in that?

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 30/01/2010 16:10

She certainly is very very fast!

Ours goes in a ball while we clean her out and she seems to love it but I had read they get stressed in the ball so hard to tell.

Guinea pigs love company! Hamsters don't need it on the whole. Give her some loo rolls to destroy

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 30/01/2010 16:17

I thought of those but worried she would choke if she ate them!

Hammy pigs!

cookielove · 30/01/2010 20:47

My hamster loved loo roll, i looked it up and it said as long as you remove the paper it should be fine, they do love to chew, mine had a plastic house, that had an interesting style edging to it after the first week, i put up loads of those hard wooden fruit things she had no interest in them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2010 09:55

fab, if you did this, hammy would be no more

a nice tasty snack for the gp's

our 2 LOVE chewing/destroying loo rolls/kitchen towel rolls with a passion

i do think hammys get lonely IF they are used to being with another hammy or next door to one/side by side

we always have 2 hammys and when one dies we always get another one asap as hammy that is alive seems to pine and go off food

im sure they have a chat at night when they are swinging

Meglet · 31/01/2010 09:58

I don't think the hamster would last long.

I've found a dead mouse in my piggies hutch twice in my life. I assume the mouse snuck in through the bars and they 'attacked' it.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 31/01/2010 09:59

I am definitely not doing it.

I will save her some loo rolls and have sent DH to get some chewy things for the guinea pigs. He isn't happy as he said their sticks were still fine even though they have chewed all their bark off. I have bought them a chew toy which hangs on the hutch door but they don't seem to know what it is for.

don't do it fab! If you are that worried about the hamster being lonely then get another of her own species to live with her. Even though piggies are pretty gentle they are very big, heavy and clumsy compared to teeny tiny dwarf hamsters and so I wouldn't trust an accident not to happen, not to mention that they eat different food and have diiferent cage needs etc

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 31/01/2010 12:58

I was more kind of thinking they could play together in the run but the hamster would probably fit through the wire and the guinea pigs don't play a lot at the moment!

I think we have had the hamster too long to introduce a friend now and dh would have a fit if I did.
