has anyone taught their cat to use the human loo?

We have a lovely cat who we had hoped would use our garden for her toilet(like all the neighbour's cats do). We've had her now for about 18months and she still won't go outside. We hate having a litter tray especially as the only place we can have it is in the kitchen (yuk).

I've heard there is a special litter tray thing to put on the loo to teach your cat to go there. This sounds great, but how will it work with my 2 dc's? and will it work for my slightly thick cat?(she has trouble going out of the catflap, but comes in fine)

Has anyone tried it?

I've not tried it, but I have read about it before.

Thanks I'll have a look at that. The other thing that worries me is that our bathroom is upstairs! Will I have to balance a litter tray on the stairs while? This does not sound like a good idea!

The other thing for us to do I suppose, is to get her to go out of the cat flap by herself and use the garden.

I wonder if she thinks the flap doesn't open from the inside with a push as we often keep it locked. I think this might confuse her, but dh is paranoid about stray cats coming in.

Hmm

Our old cat bless him used to poo in the loo.

I used this system and those who know me well obviously the clicker Took ours about 2 weeks to get the hang of it.

He never did flush though!

Have you tried leaving the cat box outside? Or has she refused that too? I Had a cat once which was very vain and a clean freak. If he got his paws muddy he would sit for hours, and I mean hours washing his paws! He was always beautifully clean but refused to go out to do his stuff!!

Once I got so fed up with the stink that I put the box outside and he eventually got the message! Having said that though, he never went out if it was raining and one time it rained constantly for a few days, so he left me a pressie on the door mat

Our cat is a bit thick and can't seem to work out that her cat flap opens out as well as in. She waits by the door giving us looks until one of us opens it for her. So I wouldn't like to leave it outside because she would then I'm sure 'do a whoopsie on the carpet!'
She does like to wash though and spends ages licking the pretty peach curls on her tum

our cat uses the toilet but only for drinking from! he is a strange one that one.
he also sleeps in the bath, but then all his things are in one of our bathrooms and he has claimed it as his space! litter try, food bowls, bed the works .

my cat used to wee in the bath. I thought that was quite clever. Never managed the loo though.

My cat does. I haven't taught her though. She already did it when we got her! She wees and then she turns round and inspects it - there's a pic of her inspecting it on my profile.

I didn't even know she did it until the person who lived here before us (cat refused to move so ended up staying with us!!) asked if she still used the loo. Then I started looking out for her and saw her a couple of times.

schroeder - your cat is not stupid. She has trained you well to open the door for her. Who's stupid? (I open the cat flap for mine! She doesn't like pushing it open so sits there and yells until I push it with my finger and hold it until she's slipped through.)
