How much do you pay in pet insurance (dog)?

My policy has just come up for renewal and I'm horrified at the amount - £28 per month (was £13 per month for the year that is just ending). I managed to negotiate down to £23 per month by ditching some of the extras (holiday cancellation, replacement if dog goes missing, etc).

Policy is with Lloyds TSB. 7 year old springer.

Just curious as to what the norm is? And wondering whether it is worth paying at all. Despite a few accidents we've paid out more than we've had back, but then perhaps an older dog will get more expensive to maintain.

Mine is through esure, about £9 per month.
£3500 vets fees cover, £500 if dog is stolen etc. Cant remember the rest!

Ours cost £16.50 per month each to insure with Sainsburys.

We have 'option 2' cover, outlined here, it includes up to £7500 of vet fees per condition and that is unlimted timewise (a lot of policies run out after a year, which is useless if the dog needs long term drugs or something):

All policies are different and factor in things like age, breed, etc so you cant really compare costs with other people.

Have you tried money supermarket?

Fwiw, I pay £28 for a year old lab - but that is an all singing/dancing policy that includes everything.

We searched aorund an awful lot and found Sainsburys gave comparitive cover to Petplan, but was much less expensive. I also know (because of friends who work in vets) that they are good at paying, which is very important.

Glad to see that I am not the only one paying out loads. I have two airedales (my boys) one is nearly 11 and one is nine. I have to pay £67 yes £67 a month!!!!! Yes I have an advanced policy (probably be moving to standard one this time round). As one has arthritus I am really stuck w ith this insurer TESCO. But do feel ripped off, as we have paid out huge amounts and had very few claims under the circumstances!!! Also in a related theme, I get really annoyed having to pay my vets £10 just to process a claim form! Just as well I love my boys! And not wanting to hijack this tread but how much do people pay for a print off for a repeat prescription from their vets? (I will start a new thread on this - soz!!
