I have been looking for ages for the newest member of our family.

Im looking for a mini dacshund bitch, I live in East Anglia, can any one reccomend any brreders, or advice - what should I check out for?

Here's something for starters, and here

We found our current dachs (standard shorthaired) from here, I think.

Minis seem to need to be screened for some genetic condition not affecting standards; you need to grill the breeder as to whether their dogs are likely to develop back problems; check temperament (some dachsies are soft as butter, some are vicious little devils!)

I'd always start any search for a new puppy via the owners' club - they should be able to advise you about good breeders nearby, and possibly put you in touch with the breed rescue, who might have an adult in need of a home.

Try here Dachshund Owners Club or here Mini Dachshund Owners Club

Avoid internet ads - there are some very VERY dodgy people around at the moment...

In that case heres the specific page ... we got ours as a 10 month old who had been kept for show but didn't make the grade so they wanted to find him a good pet home. Housetrained and used to children, known history and very well socialised with other dogs - perfect!

Happy to be of service! Have fun finding your little bitch - and let us know when you've found her

Shame - though good from the dogs' POV I suppose! Well, from those sites there are lots of lists of breeders you can start ringing round. They'll know when they are planning litters. Another thing to consider is if there are any shows coming up - we went to one when we were first thinking of getting a dachs, so that we could meet some breeders.
