Going to see Vizsla pup today!

Having assumed we would be waiting for a while to get to see any vizsla pups, we have just been contacted by a breeder who had initially said her wait list was full for her current litter. Sadly, one of the families have now decided to move house and don't think its the right time to have a dog. Which means, we are next in line! We had recent contact with two breeders and this is the one whom we felt far more positive about.

Am so excited. Am prepped with all my questions gleaned from all the wonderful info from Midori & Bella, together with all the other threads which I haven't been a part of but have researched

Off to Cambridge in 10 minutes and I cannot wait! Am more excited than the DCs If she is right for us, then we will be bringing her home mid-February (she was born 19 December).

However, will be sure to be calm and sensible on arrival and feel certain that we will be able to make a rational decision on whether or not she is for us. Oh, its a bitch by the way

Thanks everyone! Will report back later

Be sure to let us know what you decide. I have yet to walk away from puppies when I have kidded myself "it wont hurt just to have a look"

I am DELIGHTED to announce that the beautiful Dasher (to be renamed Ruby.......I think, altho quite like the name Dasher) will be coming to join our family on 8 February

I know I said it would probably take us a year to find the right pup but these dogs were just lovely and I'm certain that they were as good as any other vizslas that I have come across.

Breeder had 3 adult vizslas - grandmother, mother and daughter. They were all absolutely beautiful Very calm and placid. Came over to say hello to us and DCs, had a good sniff then kind of velcro'd themselves to me for 5 mins before going back to more interesting things

Pups absolutely beautiful. They breed for temperament and it clearly shows with the adult dogs. Mum is 5 and this is her second litter (last one was 2 years ago) so definitely not breeding for profit purposes only. Went through all the necessary q's - she was LOLing about the fact that I had a print out from MN with me but was pleased to see that I had done my homework too.

Was definitely a 2 way "interview". She told me she is always very honest with people because she won't let her dogs go to anyone that she isn't 100% certain of.

I am stupidly excited! Eldest DS (9) is also mad keen whereas DS2 (5) is quite ambivalent about it. They were both great with the dogs though - they stayed nice and calm and spoke softly to them. Was very proud of my own little pups too

Fantastic

Am very, very pleased for you.

A teeny bit but very pleased for you

Thanks Bella

Seriously, I knew no matter how adorable the pups were, it was the adults that I needed to pay more attention to and they were faultless. They were playful but responsive to commands. Friendly but not overbearing. Also, breeder is very keen on aftercare and advice, proper contracts etc. I also contacted Vizsla Society and was told that she has a good reputation so that put my mind at ease more than the KC accreditation.

Thanks for all your help

You're very welcome - breeder, dogs and pups sound brill

I'd recommend you read Culture Clash by Jean Donakdson if you haven't already - it will set you up well for Ruby's arrival

tulpe · 10/01/2010 20:10

Shall add it to my amazon list immediately
