Is my kitten in heat?

My kitten is just 6 months old, and I'm wondering if she might be in heat. She has not stopped miaowing all day - she is usually quite a vocal cat, but nothing like this.

I don't think she is unwell - she isn't eating as much as usual, but she has eaten today. She hasn't been sick/diarrhoea. She is still interested in playing, although she seems to have a shorter attention span than usual, playing for up to 5 minutes and then stopping to sit and miaow! She seems more awake and alert than usual too.

Aside from the miaowing she seems a lot more affectionate than usual, rubbing up against us and the furniture. She is rolling on the floor a lot, displaying her tummy and rubbing her self on the carpet. I think she has also been presenting her bottom, holding it higher than the rest of her with tail in the air, particularly when being stroked.

Could she be in heat at only 6 months old? She hasn't been spayed yet (planning to do it later this month). I've not seen a cat in heat before, do these sound like signs of a cat in heat, or could it be something else? Obviously if it lasts more than a day or two I will phone the vet, but do you think i should call sooner, or am I safe to assume it's heat?

I think they can start becoming fertile from 6 months onwards. I can't really remember how old mine was but she was pregnant at 11 months lol

Yes, definitely sounds like she is in heat or 'calling'.

Don't let her out!

Call your vet, explain, and ask when they would like to see her to book her in to be spayed.

Calling can last a week or longer - don't let her out until she has been back to normal for a few days.
