Here we go again, anyone else dreading the firework onslaught till stupid o'clock? As if it wasn't bad enough staying in on NYE, now i've got to calm the dog down for the next 4 hours

Aw, sazzer

Am sure you know all the tricks by now - starchy meal for dog, make a well-insulated den, radio etc.

As a weird kind of thought - you know how white noise is supposed to cancel out other noises? Is there any white noise you can play via YouTube etc?

Looking further ahead - the Sounds Scary desensitisation CD can help, as can Zylkene (non-drug mild sedative).

All the best x

Thanks Bella, I really must get a CD next year! Making as much noise as I can without waking ds!

Sazzerbear don't leave it for next year.

You can get a desensitisaiton cd that helps loads of dogs. It has fireworks recorded onit. If you play it daily at a very very very low volume when the dog is doing something he enjoys eg playing. Then gradually turn it up over a period of weeks any by Nov 5 and next NYE your dog will be much less stressed.

Yup, that's the CD I meant, Minimu. I reckon you need to allow at least a couple of months to follow the full desensitisation programme.
If you CAT me, sazzer I can dig out my own copy (with full instructions) and I'll post it to you. I have long since put mine on my iPod - easily accessible but a bit odd sometimes when I shuffle songs
