Rabbits and Ticks!

have found one on our rabbit! any ideas how to remove/prevent and what to do? thanks

part the fur so that you can see the head of the tick right next to the skin of your bunny. then using a tick hook or pair of tweezers grasp the head - the small dark bit closest to the skin and twist and gently pull away from the skin at the same time.

if you have any you can put a tiny bit of surgical spirit or frontline (cat and dog flea treatment) on a cotton pad and apply it to the tick first - this will kill it so it will be easier to remove.

once you have it out have a good look at the head.you will be able to see legs and some biting mouthparts. if its not all there then the bunny will need to go to the vet as mouthparts left under the skin will cause infection. if it is all there then hooray job done.

OR just take bunny into your vets and i bet one of the nurses will whip it off for you for nothing.
