I have 2 medium size cross breed rescues, aged 4 and 7. They have been with us 8 months and are really settled and lovely gentle dogs.
We take them to training classes and they are doing really well.
The issue is that they have started to run up to people barking , which of course is not on and needs to be stopped. Their recall is usually really good, but they seem to become single minded and will not listen to us at this point. We had a bit of a todo last night where they were walking to heel with us, and then took off after a couple with umbrellas. The guy did escalate the situation by trying to shoo them off using the umbrella as a sheild! but I don't blame him cos two dogs running at you barking is bloody frightening.
They tend to do it more with single men, and most of the time do ignore people.
They also run up to other dogs to say hello, but this is getting better as they get more socialised and they will ignore them a bit more. However one of them is quite vocal with other dogs (worse since training classes) and will growl as she goes over.
This does not phase other dogs as she is not being nasty, but owners think she is and it is a bit of an issue.
The dogs go to mil twice a week and the barking at people seems to have started here as she is not strict with them at all (e.g. she will tell them to sit but if they don't won't insist - they sit every single time for us but not for her, they wait and stay for us but not for her).
It doesn't matter where it has started though, but we need to resolve it, so any ideas welcome. Thank very much
