What do I do about getting water in to my guinea pigs?

DH brought them in this morning and they have been in the kitchen in a box full of hay. I have now brought them in to the lounge but realised they have no water. Can they drink out of a bowl and how long can they go without water?

could you make a hole in the box and stick the water spout through it?

FabIsGettingReadyForXmas · 18/12/2009 13:08

Their bottle is fine as I have a cover for it but the piggies are in a cardboard box so nothing to attach the bottle to. Just asked DS1 to chop them some cucumber

well I reckon a little bowl would be fine .. geerally they don't have water bottle in the wild

I thought of that mulledfruit but thought they would chew the hole and escape .

Girl guinea pig has just grabbed a piece of cucumber.

And now so has Boy Piggy.

Have you got any cucumber or apple or something they could have just to get some moisture into them?!

Don't know how long they can go without water but it always says 'fresh water should be available' on the food bags etc so prob not long.

Have you brought them in out of the cold?

be too small to chew if its just big enough for a water spout I would have thought

While i'm on this thread with piggy peeps -
has anyone ever successfully introduced a baby boy to an older boy and had them live together happily? Older boy is about 8 months and placid.

Start a new thread LaaDeDa as you will get more answers.

I will get DH to make a hole when he gets home .

OP, how secure is the box?
Could you bring the hutch in?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/12/2009 17:28

can you not sellotape/parcel tape the bottle to inside the box?

Alambil · 18/12/2009 19:56

lade, I just got a 9 week old baby boy in with my 8m old, rather unplacid boy and they get along fine

They didn't like the tiny pigloo bedroom, so I upgraded them to a bigger cave type thing from pets at home and they've stopped chasing each other these past few days...
