I have a weird question about dogs....

Last night my 6 year old lab was sick on the living room carpet, i left the room for 2 seconds to run to the kitchen for paper towels and when i got back she was eating it, by the time i dragged her away from it my carpet was clean again.....is this normal?

Also there was a baby sock in it, should i be worried about this sudden change in behaviour and how much damage could eating a sock do to her?

We've had her for a year now and ive never seen her do this before.

All the Labs I have ever know have all eaten their own sick - some have even eaten their own poo!

BellasSparklyBaubles · 11/12/2009 12:59

Perfectly normal

One of mine was sick on a walk one day and when I passed the same spot - several days later - all my dogs went frantic trying to muscle in on the cold vomit.

BellasSparklyBaubles · 11/12/2009 13:00

As for the sock - bringing it back up was good. It's when they stay down and cause a blockage that you get very serious problems.

MumGoneCrazy · 11/12/2009 13:08

So i wont be needing a trip to the vets then?

Im sure it was only the one sock she ate, it must of fallen off the radiator, as the matching one was still on there.

Thank you all

And ewwww at the old cold sick

I think dogs and labs in particular are just very efficient recyclers!

TRsPurpleReindeerIsNamedRhino · 11/12/2009 18:08

duke has eaten geckos poo before

BellasSparklyBaubles · 11/12/2009 18:23

Are you trying to compete here, Trinity?

timelordvictorious · 11/12/2009 19:01

Good lord, it's practically a perk of having dogs. When little Ff was refluxy (for about 13 months...rivers of vomit everywhere) I don't know what I would have done without my clean up team to mop up the worst.

Don't worry about the sock. One of mine ate Iggle Piggle's blanket - I only noticed when I was on poo patrol in the garden.

timelordvictorious · 11/12/2009 19:05

And if you really want something to make you , when Girldog is in season, Boydog follows her round and, um, cleans up.

sowhatis · 12/12/2009 09:37

same here timelord - quite 'eeww' but natural to them!

newpup · 12/12/2009 10:00

My labs favourite delicacy is the cat's sick !!!

Labs are gross! lovable but gross!

lowrib · 12/12/2009 10:04

My friend puked when drunk. He staggered off to get something to clean it up and when he got back the dog was just finishing licking it up.

That's not an "envy" emoticon here BTW, I'm re-appropriating it as a "feeling sick just thinking about it" emoticon!

BellasSparklyBaubles · 12/12/2009 10:04

Now I'm going to really gross you all out!

In certain countries, where baby wipes are not widely available, new babies are given a puppy.

You do the math, as they say

newpup · 12/12/2009 13:05

Bella !!

Festive wave to you too!

crispycake · 12/12/2009 13:56

my dog eats her sick and sometimes her poo! just dont let them lick your face

twooter · 12/12/2009 14:05

my dsis' MIL' dog cleared up after my dsis and her dh after sex one time.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/12/2009 14:12

I have 2 female labs, 5 years old.

One of them eats her own sick and the other ones, she won't eat it.

They eat baby sick/poo, like to shred nappies and eat whatever they can out of them, they eat my worn knickers from the washing bin and most useful, I never have to crawl around picking up food after the kids have eaten.

BigusBumus · 12/12/2009 14:38

My female Jack Russell eats my dirty knickers too! Just the gussett area.

echt · 13/12/2009 21:03

It's plainly of some vintage, too: " As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly". Proverbs, Chapter 26, Verse 11.

lowrib · 14/12/2009 11:14

Oh god. I saw a poster ad with Iggle Piggle on it yesterday, and the first thing I thought of when I saw his blanket was a mental picture of timelordvictorious's dog eating and pooing it out.

You have ruined ITNG! It will never be the same again!
