My 6 yr old staff X whom i have had since i rehomed him when he was 3 months old has been acting very oddly and lost alot of weight, took him the vets and she has found a lump, he is soooo young but i feel like their is only one end to this, i'm going to be strong for him and pay as much as i can afford, he has been give painkillers via injection and he has an appointment on monday, he will be there all day and is having blood tests, an ultrasound and 2 X-rays under general anasethetic. Iam very scared and have cried all day, i don't want him to suffer but he is so very young for a dog.

Oh Poppy, I am sorry It is heartbreaking when a pet is ill.

Keeping everything crossed.

BellasSparklyBaubles · 05/12/2009 21:23

Aw, Poppy
Easier said than done, I know, but try not to worry too much until you get a diagnosis.
Sending you and your lovely boy all the best x

PoppyIsApain · 06/12/2009 11:41

Thanks, im assuming the worst but could be anything silly like a swallowed mini tennis ball or the nappy he managed to eat last week

Such a worry but don't imagine the worst until you get a diagnosis. Do hope things are ok. Nappies yum

I think with people most lumps turn out to be nothing, hopefully it will be the same with dogs. Let us know how you get on.
Good luck

BellasSparklyBaubles · 07/12/2009 09:19

Best of luck today, Poppy x

so sorry to hear this poppy. i hope it went well today and it is not anything too serious.

OMG, first of all my darling Tyson has suddenly not got a lump! The vet rang who examined him on saturday and said she now believes the lump was a hard stool!, how can a vet get it so wrong, i am so happy and relieved, i feel i have spent the whole weekend and today grieving for my dog before he has been diagnosed, the vet has done some blood tests and a faeces sample as she wants to see why he lost so much weight and he has been given antibiotics, i have another appointment to discuss the tests on friday which iam naturally a little concerned about.
He is definatley getting the luxury christmas stocking this year. It has been the worst time of my life tbh, i didnt think he would be seeing christmas this year. When i was in the vets to pick him up a lady went in and signed a consent form to put her cat down, it was horrible and i really thought that is what i would be doing today, thank God my prayers were answered.Thank you all for your concern x

His blood and faeces tests came back negative, the vet suggested a pancreatic blood test if he doesnt improve in the next few weeks, but i think he is going to be fine, he is much happier. Ive been advised to feed him chappie and take him to the vets to weigh him each week (for free) till he is at 13-14 Kg. It has cost me over £200 to find out he has had some constipation and bad gas, but iam so grateful he is ok and know i will never take him for granted that he will always be there again.
