Cat peeing by front door, tried everything! Help!

Hi,

Kitten is 5 months old, has 2 litter boxes with 2 types of litter in (seems to prefer the newest one, I was hoping that'd solve the problem but to no avail) and she keeps urinating in the corner by the front door.
I don't think she's spraying as it is clearly a sit down wee.

So, I've removed the mat and she still pees on the bare concrete after it's been scrubbed with biological washing solution and a special deoderising spray i bought from petsathome.

I tried feeding her near the area (not right in the corner as the bowls would get in the way of the door opening) and she still went to pee in the corner.

I've got a Feliway diffuser and spray. Doesn't make much difference in the long run.

What the feck else can i do??

Can you put something there which would be unpleasant for her to walk/sit on?

How about a water spray, give her a squirt if you see her anywhere near that corner?

msrisotto · 04/12/2009 13:12

She doesn't mind being squirteed with water - unless i squeeze a water bottle stream in her face but i feel really mean doing that! Should I do it anyway?

I put pepper down, orange peel and tin foil and it didn't stop her. What else unpleasant thing could I put down?

A cactus?

msrisotto · 04/12/2009 13:17

lol I do have 3 mini cacti! So tempting! She'll just knock em over.

Is she peeing outside or inside?

Could you put a litter tray where she's peeing (with a view to gradually moving it later)?

msrisotto · 04/12/2009 13:21

Inside. She's an indoor cat.

It would be a pain as opening the door would push the tray and you'd have to hop over it but i suppose for a month or so it would be possible. Do you think that's the way to go then?

I think it's worth a try. Work with what she clearly is happiest with, then try to shape it to what you want.

Maybe she likes that spot because it's relatively quiet and enclosed? They do like their privacy.

msrisotto · 04/12/2009 13:30

It is relatively quiet and dark there. Will have to try it despite it being a pain in the arse!!

I'm trying to remember from your previous thread - have you already tried an enclosed litter tray?

confuseddoiordonti · 04/12/2009 13:54

An excellent book is Cat Confidential by Vicky Halls. I think, although it was a while since I read it, it may be an emotional thing rather than physical. She may also be bored and frustrated as she's an indoor cat. Can't type much more as at work but urge you to get this book and have a look as it may have a good suggestion.
Good luck!

msrisotto · 04/12/2009 14:06

Yeah she has enclosed litter trays.
Yaeh, I know, multiple threads I really am trying to sort it though!

She isn't left on her own all day btw, I am a student so am away at most for 8 hours one day a week and sometimes my partner works from home so she isn't bored i don't think.

Try rubbing the area with half a fresh lemon (or leave one in the corner for a couple of days if it doesn't fuss you to do so). Cats HATE the smell of lemon and so hopefully she will beggar off away from the area and use her litter tray.

msrisotto · 05/12/2009 17:31

I did leave orange peel there fpr a while with little to no effect. The litter tray is there now but if that doesn't work, i will give lemon a go!

We had a cat that used to do that. confused may have a point. Ours was unneutered as my mum used to breed her and as a protest of being allowed out and not being able to paint the town red, she used to pee in that spot.

I would say that it would be an emotional reason rather than anything else.
