I like Luca....don't like Elvis or Quinn. Fraser and Basil ok.

Nyx · 01/12/2009 21:10

Luca or Basil. Congratulations!

thirtysomething · 01/12/2009 21:14

They are all cool but less keen on Luca for a dog. Nearly called my (very cool!) black cat Elvis. Would have suited him.

How about Frasier after the TV series (if he's going to be a snooty, know-it-all kind of dog....)

If I had a black lab I've always thought I'd call it Cedric or Quentin in an ironic kind of way....

Like Basil best. or Alan, Dave, Leonard, Brian, Colin and Kevin?

dizzycringles · 01/12/2009 22:14

Mac

the best name I EVER heard for a dog was HOOVER - he was fab too

Vallhala · 01/12/2009 23:15

Hoover is very apt for a Lab!

I like Basil best from the list. Whatever you choose, just consider how you'll feel when yelling the name across the park or fields! This is said remembering a pal who as a little boy went with his aunt's suggestion for his new kitten's names

The trendy, very PC, successful in the music business by his late teens young man was less enamoured with the name when he got to 17 and in front of me, the girlfriend at the time whom he was trying desperately to impress, had to go into the garden of his posh suburbian house and bellow....

.....

"GAY!"

Vallhala · 01/12/2009 23:16

Suburbian??? Oh, you know what I meant!

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 01/12/2009 23:30

what about monty. he sounds like he could be a monty. or an oscar.

other than that out of your list i like Luca!

Vallhala · 01/12/2009 23:43

Oh... Monty...

My SBT X, whom I lost to a sudden stroke nearly 2 years ago, was called Monty. It was a lovable, cuddly name for a lovable, cuddly dog.

The other one I thought of was Albert or Bertie. I got a scruffy fella released from an Irish pound when he'd been taken there with his house-mate by the owner. I begged and pleaded with the pound manager but Bertie's friend was PTS regardless. The scruffy fella came over to my local rescue and was adopted by the rescue owner - I called him Albert but the owner calls him Bertie, both of which are imho just right for an adorable pooch.

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 02/12/2009 00:02

awww vall im sorry you lost your pooch. i like SBTs.

nooka · 02/12/2009 05:54

I think (in general) dogs should be given names that are unsuitable (for whatever reason) for children. Our family dogs were Titus and Yoric (classics/Shakespeare) which would be really too pretentious for children. Our pup is called Amos. I think I'd go for Basil - will you say it in a Fawlty Towers sort of voice? I quite like Elvis and Quinn too, but I know children called Fraser and Luca, so would avoid those.

Totallyfloaty35 · 02/12/2009 10:36

Thanks everyone. We already have a Mavis and a Hector so needed something that was not too similar sounding..Im pretty keen on Basil and Quinn. We love the name Bert, but i do sort of know one and his mum may be a little offended if i name my dog after her son.
DD3 who is 3yrs old thinks we should call him Nemo or Dog

teameric · 02/12/2009 10:40

dizzycringles · 02/12/2009 12:34
