Cat is OBSESSED with me!

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 21:18

In June we got two kittens from vet rehoming centre, already had an adult cat. Kittens weren't litter mates. Black one was really friendly and ginger one wasn't, in fact I was worried he was going to be anti humans!

Within a week the ginger one came around and was friendly and it was fab, come forward a few month and the ginger cat is obsessed with me and I am mean seriously obsessed.

If I sit on the sofa he's either on my lap or on the sofa behind my head. In bed he is either on me (I tend to sleep on my stomach he is on my back), or on my pillow, if I open my eyes in the night the cat is there purring, he has a habit of reaching over and licking my nose. If I get up for a wee in the night and shut the loo door before the cat gets there he sits outside miaowing!

Has anyone come across this before, its lovely that he loves me so much but is it.. well... normal???

Are you pg?!

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 21:21

bloody hope not!!! No I would say I'm definately not pregnant.

We used to have a female cat that was like that, wouldn't sit on women at all unless they were pg. Freaked my sister out big time!

This cat is male btw not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I was going to ask if you were pregnant too!

choufleur · 26/11/2009 21:25

really do cats like pregnant women? one of our cats has started to sit on me a lot. hasn't done since ds was born (3.6 years).

Ripeberry · 26/11/2009 21:27

My cat follows me around and I'm certainly not pregnant

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 21:30

Its mad he just follows me, he's so loving. Its the bed thing that freaks me out, I wake up in the middle of the night and he's on my pillow watching me!! If I close the bedroom door he sits outside and miaows.

Get more attention from the cat than I do from DH!

This made me smile. We have 2 cats, and 1 of them is obsessed with me.

As soon as I sit down he wants to be on me. When I leave the roo he follows me. If I go upstairs he races up the stairs ahead of me.

He also chews on my hair! ewwwww! A bit pervy!!

CarGirl · 26/11/2009 21:34

I wonder if it's more common if you have 2 cats, competing for attention?

BellaBonJovi · 26/11/2009 21:35

I had one like this - lost her earlier this year
She just would have spent 24 hours a day in my arms if she could have. Makes me very sad to remember her tbh.
And no, I'm not pg!

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 21:37

I'm glad I'm not alone because it can be a bit freaky. He isn't chewing my hair... yet...lol

Bella - sorry to hear that, we lost a cat in July, it was my DDs he was obsessed with her, she is still devastated.

Starting to panic now the cat knows something about me I don't

Yes, it's normal. My mum's cat waits up for her if she goes out, and shadows her steps. In fact I think he says 'what time do you call this?' whenever she comes in.

My cat likes to sleep on my head. But that's because it's warm and I have hair (unlike DH). I don't flatter myself that she loves me.

Klaw · 26/11/2009 21:43

Bless him!

imle this can be normal, how old were they when you got them? how old were they when separated from their mums? do you know?

I think you're his mum now. ;)

Have you seen Simon's cat? Reminds me so much of my Ella, RIP 18/05/05. Miss her stilland her fluffy ways.....

As soon as remaing short-haired cat goes I will need to get a new pair of cats, and they need to be long-hiared, cos I like their natures better

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 21:46

We don't know their exact ages as they were dumped at the vets (two litters of 5 kittens were dumped on their doorstep!). We think the black one ws 8 weeks old and the ginger one roughly 10 weeks - he was a bit bigger and now they are older can definately see he is the older one.

He's currently sitting on the back of the sofa wedged in my neck, if I lean forward he's going to fall lol

He's got such a loud purr as well, I just have to speak to him and he purrs.

We since got another kitten (I really can't help myself), the new one is evil, I'm sure he's planning to take over the world lol

I can really recommend somalis and abysinnians for loving personalities!

wangle99 · 26/11/2009 22:15

Whoops just lent forward on the sofa and cat fell straight down my back. He's now sitting on the arm of the sofa next to me just watching me lol

He sounds lovely

Klaw · 26/11/2009 22:24

Wangle99, YOU'VE made me email my local CPL to ask about the two cats I've had my eye on on their webpage.

It's all YOUR fault.

jojochanel · 26/11/2009 22:25

I has two rescue girl cats and within a few months one of them was like this with me. I felt like the pied piper (or how ever he's spelt - you know the chap I mean) cos she followed me everywhere. I've had loads of cats throughout my life - about 17 or so so I think I know them quite well and I'm not being funny but I honestly think that she had some kind of learning difficulties - even the vets who met her said she was very odd. I think she was the runt (she certainly looked it) and I don't know if that changes anything.

Sounds like I'm bagging her - I'm not cos she was like my baby and I miss her to bits now she's dead but at times it could be quite annoying and it drove my husband mad - especially when she insisted on getting in bed with me every night.

Vallhala · 26/11/2009 22:26

I have one like this. Sleeps on my head and shouts... SHOUTS... at me every five minutes. He's only 4 months old but makes my abnormally quiet but crazy huge GSD sound like an angel in comparison!

Many years ago I had a similar cat, Henry, who followed me everywhere. I adored him but I lost him to an accident. I was devastated and think I know how you must feel, Bella. My heart's with you.

dooit · 26/11/2009 22:36

I've been ill with flu this week and my cats have followed me everywhere. Every time I've sat down all three have sat on me. When I took myself to bed the other afternoon they all sat outside the bedroom door howling (yes my cats howl, they are odd) to be let in to visit me. I flatter myself in thinking it's because they love mummy and are worried about me but I'm fully aware that they just love the fact that at 38.5 degrees i was a walking radiator for them to warm their selfish little bodies on and they don't care how uncomfortable they make me or how much I overheat so long as they're dandy.
