Our vet told us to put our cats on it

They are on the senior one and they love it

They were on tins of felix

don't know, our cat has been fed on IAMS for years, he loves them (turns his snooty cat nose up at any substitutions we buy if IAMS not available!)

RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:31

i have seen some negative comments here on MN and wondered why?

Our cats love it too

Special offer at petsathome atm

Iams? ffs! It's the work of the devil!!!!!!!!

(only joking)

Don't know of any real concerns - there are better foods, there are much, much worse foods.

As you were.

RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:41

LOL bella

it is cheaper than felix too ~ we just changed cos of the vet and the cats both go bonkers for it

neg comments on mn? I haven't seem any.

I use Iams for my 2 furballs, will not buy Purina, cannot afford Hill's science plan.

shonaspurtle · 24/11/2009 20:46

I think there was some stuff about Iams and animal testing. Poor conditions in their testing labs I think.

Can't remember the details but I know I always feel a bit guilty if I buy it.

BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 20:48

Dried food almost always cheaper than tinned/pouches. Wet food is up to 80% water, you know...

RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:48

someone said that they got IAMS and then put a and then said something like they didn't know about it

IIRC

IAMS cruelty stuff here

We give our cat Hills Science Plan Light on the advice of the vet (cat is overweight .

I bet I find out now that it's made by the same people.

RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:50

bella

are you a vet cos when I tell DH Bella said ..............?

I never know how to describe you

OP posts:
costagirl · 24/11/2009 20:50

Yes I think Iams are a bad company for animal experiments. Remember a protest about it in the market square a while ago! Can't remeber the details, but made a mental note to avoid them if poss. Febreeze was another one who are shocking vivisectionists.

shonaspurtle · 24/11/2009 20:52

Iams is certainly kitty crack. Our very podgy cat managed to jump up onto an overhead cupboard, pull down the bag and chew through the plastic to get to the food the last time we bought it.

BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 20:52

How exactly would you describe me, Kanga? Be nice now!

No, I'm an ex vet nurse and I did some nutritional training too.

BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 20:54

x post - lol @ kitty crack

RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:57

I say I think she must be a vet ~ but then I get confused cos you are on MN so much ~ so don't work much and then I thought you may be on maternity leave

So I am nice about you

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 24/11/2009 20:58

Thanks for all the info on IAMS

OP posts:
BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 21:06

Aw - thanks for being nice! Beautifulgirls is a vet, I think, and there must be others. I know it seems like I'm on MN a lot but I only go on Pets.
Dry food much better for their teeth too -see, you've set me off now

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/11/2009 21:08

i stopped buying iams when i found out about the animal cruelty. the one that really made me wince was the live kitten being flushed down a drain, so i emailed them and havnt bought it since.

BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 21:19

Why did they flush a kitten down a drain, Vicar?

ButterySpud · 24/11/2009 21:19

My friend who is a vet had a lady come in and ask for the posh pet food that she couldn't recall the name but sounded like the guy from Star wars. Of course she meant This.

ButterySpud · 24/11/2009 21:21

That IAMS stuff is shocking!

gothicmama · 24/11/2009 21:26

so what can I use instead?

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/11/2009 21:35

bella - i was sent a link similar to the one shona linked above...

it had secretly filmed footage, the person who filmed it had worked at the lab and kept note of all they saw - and it included a live kitten being hosed down a drain - it didnt move fast enough so it just got washed down the open drain. it made quite horrifying reading. i boycotted iams then. im not some daft animal rights hippy chick but i couldnt carry on buying it knowing it had such a terrible reputation for animal cruelty. i get one from our local kennels now.

BellaBonJovi · 24/11/2009 21:56

No, I quite understand Vicar - that would put me off Iams too (I've never used it). I do remember now that when we've talked about this before it all gets quite circular because many of the big brands are owned by the same people. Will have a look at Shona's link tomorrow, thanks (am on my phone just now so everything is tiny).

duckyfuzz · 24/11/2009 22:00

oh no I had no idea
