My cat has been missing for a week

Hi pet lovers.

My beloved cat has been missing for a week. Its really not liker her at all. Its been horrible weather and fireworks Thursday and tonight.

I have called all vets in the town, the council 'cleansing department' and all animal welfare charities in the town and no one has any news.

I am torn between trying to accept that she is gone (trapped somewhere, 'adopted' by someone) or gone forever (hurt, dead but not reported).

My best case scenario is that some mad old cat lady has taken her in and she hasn't returned home as she is being fed fillet steak every night.

My worst case scenario is that she is trapped somewhere and suffering.

As well as contacting all of the above I have put a message in local paper and posters through 100 nearest doors and all local shops/post offices etc. She is also registered in national missing pet register and the like. I feel I have done all I can to get her back.

I can't help veering from thinking she must be OK if not been picked up by council or taken to vets, to thinking she must be in trouble if she hasn't come home in cold/rain/fireworks.

I don't really know what I was expecting from posting here. I am just all over the place. I hope she is either Ok or it happened quickly and she didn't feel any pain. I love her so much and just want to know what is happening.

I'm sure she will come home, my cat went missing for 2 weeks and then wondered in as if she hadnt been gone, dont give up.

thesunshinesbrightly · 08/11/2009 00:21

you have done all you can, i know how you feel it is awful

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 08/11/2009 00:23

Oh dear. Try not to worry. We lost a cat once for a week and she came back a bit dusty and hungry but none the worse for it - we thinkshe got stuck in someones shed. Cats are very hardy and practically wild in many ways and do know how to look after themselves.

I do hope your cat is and if not, as you say, probably hasn't suffered.

PS - please ignore my user name, it is my usual one and I'm not taking the mickey of you

Thanks for your kind words. Maybe that is what I was looking for when I posted. Will of course keep looking. Thanks again. x

Hi

Don't give up hope, is she microchipped? We got our cat back on friday over TWO YEARS after he went missing!! I thought he was dead but turns out he'd been living a mile away and someone had been feeding him, finally got him back as he hurt his paw so they took him to the vet and discovered the chip.

So she may not have gone far hopefully.

nicm · 08/11/2009 21:14

i know how you feel, our boy went missing about 2 years ago and we did everything you have done. dp got a call from someone who had got a leaflet through their door and when he got round it was him! i couldn't belive it. it's the not knowing that's the worst! hope you have some news soon xoxo

EccentricaGallumBANG · 08/11/2009 21:17

would it be worth contacting the RSPCA?
ours was picked up injured by someone who contacted the RSPCA who took him to a vet 15 miles away, not either of the local vets.

duke748 · 09/11/2009 08:27

Hi all.

Still no sign of her.

I have already contacted the local branch of RSPCA and they said that she is now on their national register.

Sadly no microchip. She is booked to be spayed next week and was going to have it put in then. I waited for her operation until she had had a litter of kittens. Thankfully they are grown up and have gone to new homes (except little Leela, who I kept).

I have 4 cats in total and the other two 'big cats' are chipped. How bloody typical.

I am at home today as not very well, will venture out again to see if I can find her. Will always keep looking....

I am in similar situation as you! My Tigger has been missing since 3 November and we have had such bad weather and bonfire night! Unfotunately she wasn't 'chipped', believe it or not she was due to be done this saturday when we took our dog to vet!!! I am totally blaming myself for this and feel so guilty. We have posted leaflets through doors, informed all local vets, talked to postman, dustman, local shops. Really tearful about it and everytime we have this awful weather I keep crying, wondering where she is. I just hope some kind family have taken her in. It's bloody horrible. And I keep looking at her xmas pressie I bought her. I knew I was pushing my luck when i bought it! I do hope you receive news of your cat soon, and me too Keep us posted.
