DC3 1st b'day a week after getting new puppy - fantastic for socialising her (the pup!) or best go out to celebrate?!

Hi, getting little bichon poo in a couple weeks just before DC3 first birthday. I guess we would have a few friends and family over and there would be kids etc running around. Puppy will be in kitchen with gate across but everyone will want to say hello - I feel that she needs to get used to this as I have a big family (19 nieces and nephews)so there are many family occasions where there is lots of chaos....

but, is this too soon for her to be introduced to crazy family life?

Brilliant for socialising, as long as pup can get a break from all the very attentive isitors.

How long will you have had the pup?

Very controlled socialising and maybe you need to allocate an adult to puppy duties as you will obviously be very occupied. Let pup meet people and be stroked for a short time but not chase around or get over excited.

I personally would take the pup to a very quiet place after a short time and let him have rest. A 3 yr old party is not really the place for a young pup and if not handled carefully could cause more problems than it solves.

She will have been with us for a week - is our daughters 1st birthday so will be a couple of friends 5 yr olds (plus mine) and any family that drop in. We can keep her out of the way in the kitchen although you have to go through there to the loo and to get in to garden. I will defo make sure she has some quiet time in her bed though....

As long as she can get away from the visitors for a while she should be fine.

We took our pup to DH's works Xmas Party. She slept in her basket most of the time. Until I was busy taking the DC to see Santa and the pup escaped from the basket and was discovered by some of the other DC.
