DP says not to feed the fish until march next year?? is this right?

DP says that you aren't supposed to feed fish between the months of October and March as they hibernate.

I know he said this last year but I fed them anyway as I thought he was talking nonsense.

Is this correct?

We have bog standard goldfish in a manmade pond

They don't hibernate, but they do stop feeding below a certain temperature so any food you offer them if they are cold will not be eaten - it will then rot in the pond and cause the water to become polluted which can lead to disease problems. Best not to feed therefore if you are not seeing them come up to feed. If they do then no problems giving them a small amount.
