Cats: Why does mine fart when happy?

Keith is a relative newcomer to the family, just a week. He's a kitten, he's gorgeous, he's hugely friendly and fun and really loves DD3, to the extent of clambering in the pushchair with her at every available opportunity .

We think he's great apart from the constant eggy boffs when he's happy (FFS we've even made up a song about it).

I've had lots of cats in the past but never one who shows affection through his anus.

Any advice anyone? He's on 'chaton' (kitten) dry food with water, which is what he was weaned on, same brand.

Colies are simultaneouly intelligent and daft. It's a cracking combination!

vulgar, you'd think so yes!

yet my tortie is really sleek and fine boned. Long long tail, and face a bit siameseish. Stll the dark mottled tortie tho.

i told the peopl at the sactuary yesterday how pleased we were with her and what a sweet cat she is. They were quite surprised, as they said they thought she was going to be a bit of a handful. She is aging niceky tho, altho, yes when she was a kitten she was a bit of a fruitloop. Could just sense that friendly side to her tho, the way she miawoed and rubbed against the cage for attention. We weren't really looking for a cat!!

perhaps you have this the wrong way around. Perhaps he is very happyto be farting.

Keith is such a cute name for a kitten!

Happy farts can last well into adulthood, sorry!

scroobiu - your tortie sounds adorable. And gorgeous and unusual.

I always think we are chosen by our pets than the other way round.

Don't you think Keith the happy farting kitten sounds like a brilliant name for a children's book?

i'd buy it in a flash!

He's sat on my knee right now, farting and chirruping quietly to encourage me to stroke him.

He's very full, having eaten a huge spider, legs and all.

Tell Keith to come round to mine as we've got loads of spiders and loads of cats too lazy to catch them.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 27/09/2009 22:12

He's fantastic at catching them and they are MASSIVE. He's in a snit now as I turfed him out of the pushchair. Very mean of me, not letting him sit on 4 month old DD3's face
