can cats sense when your pregnant?!!!

might seem like a really daft question but ive two cats-an 8 year old and a one year old.
the youngest cat has always been really "needy",liking lots of fuss and cuddles and permanently glued to my lap but our first baby is due next week and im sure she knows and is already feeling put out.
she spends her day either hiding under a tablecloth completely covered so we cant see her,or in our back room asleep on the sofa which she never used to go on.its like she doesnt even want to be in the same room as us.
just wondered if anyone else had encountered this before.

Our cat had never ever bought home mice or birds etc but when I was 9 months pregnant with DS, the cat turned up at the back door with mice and birds for 4 days on the trot. On the fifth day, I gave birth!!
Our vet reckons it was because the cat knew there was going to be another mouth to feed.

I think it has something to do with acute sense of smell - cats (and dogs for that matter) can smell the hormones and pheromones (sp?) that you give off.

i dont know about cats but my dog is very clingy when im pg. Always sits by me or trying to lie next to me. She did it with ds and is doing it again this time.

My cat's the opposite of yours - the only time she wants to sit on my lap is when she's got cold or wet feet! She didn't change while I was pregnant, but when I went into labour she was a nightmare on the day - wouldn't leave me alone at all! This happened with both labours - I learned the lesson the first time and got really nervous the second time she started!

actually she has an appointment on sat to have her booster so i think i'll mention it to the vet also-see if he has perhaps any suggestions too.
