Silly of me?

I have 2 dogs, one of who I love so much! He is my baby. I have lots of opportunitys to live away from home due to the nature of my work (I am a nanny) but I never take them because I am frightened of leaving the dog behind, and when I get back he might be dead because he is 13 yrs old. Is this silly? Should I just take the chance to live away and get over it?

I presume you still stay at your parents and that they would look after dogs?
What kind of dog is he? Some dogs can live to 20!! so you'll be in limbo for 7 years!!

this may sound harsh, and i honestly don't mean it to be! but if he dies, then he'll do so even if you're at home...
