Guinea pig has diahorea - very worried - please help!!

We have had GP's for 3 weeks and they have appeared to be healthy. However on Sunday I put them in their run for longer than usual (we are still getting them used to grass) and yesterday we noticed that one of GP's has diahorea.

We bathed her last night and she was quite lifeless. This morning she doesn't appear to have much energy and let me stroke her in her hutch - they are still quite shy and normally run away when you open their hutch. She still has diahorea. Should I separate her from the other GP's? I'm worried about her being dehydrated - how do I rehydrate her? Should I get her to the vets?

Get her to the vets asap. I have a rabbit and she does occasionally suffer with sloppy poops when she has had too much green stuff, however, she remains quite lively and quickly recovers. If any pet is quiet and subdued, it's a good idea to have them checked out. May be nothing but it's best to play it safe.

Thanks. Have taken her to the vets and they've given her some antibiotics and a charcoal type medicine. They took an x-ray as they were concerned that her stomach was swollen - it turns out she has air in her stomach. They are keeping her overnight to rehydrate her. DP and DC take care of the guinea pigs as I'm really not an animal lover (shouldn't say that on this thread) but I was so choked up at the vets seeing her in distress.

BTW, a friend suggested I phoned Pets at Home where we bought GP's from. They told me to bring her in to them and they would arrange for her to see a vet. They couldn't get a vets appointment until 5.10pm this afternoon. I told them that I thought she needed to see a vet before then so they agreed to me taking her to a different vets and they will refund the bill.

Glad to hear she's better. Hope she comes home okay today. Poor little thing. It is hard to see them in distress. I was almost in tears at the vets with our bunny once when she had teeth issues and wasn't eating.

I didn't know Pets at Home did a follow up service like that - that's good to know as my girls would like some GP's (I always wanted a hamster myself).
